Vehicles, rego and service history

A workshop's real asset is what it knows about the cars it looks after. Mech Central gives every vehicle a profile — rego, make, model, build year, engine code, odometer — with the full history underneath: services, quotes, invoices, inspections, photos and the things you told the owner to keep an eye on.

The problem

'What did we do to this last time?' answered by digging through a filing cabinet or a shared inbox.

The customer's phone number changed and the reminder went nowhere.

An advisory note — 'rear pads at 3 mm' — written on a job card that got thrown out.

How it works

01

Search by rego

Type the plate and the car comes up with its owner, contact details and last visit. The owner links to their contact record so a changed number updates everywhere.

02

Log the service

Invoicing a service from the menu writes it to the car's service log with the date and odometer, and sets the next reminder.

03

Note what to watch

Watch items sit on the vehicle — 'rear pads 3 mm, check next service' — and show every time the car is opened.

04

Send the history

One button emails the customer their car's history with links to each invoice. Handy when they are selling it.

The details

  • Engine code (ZD30, 2JZ, 1HZ) on the vehicle drives part suggestions — parts fit an engine family, not a serial number.

  • Rego expiry recorded per car and shown on the list, so 'your rego's due too' is a sentence you can say.

  • Vehicles link to contacts automatically — type an owner's name and number and the contact is found or created for you.

  • Inspections for the car, with their public report links, listed on the profile.

  • Import your existing customer and vehicle list from Excel or CSV — up to 5,000 rows a file.

Questions

Does it look up the rego from the government?

No. Rego search finds cars already in your workshop's records. You enter a car once, and from then on the plate finds it.

Can a customer have more than one car?

Yes. A contact can own any number of vehicles, and the contact page shows them as clickable rego chips.

Free for a month

Put one real car through it.

Set-up takes about two minutes. Book a car, quote it, photograph it, invoice it and let the reminder bring it back. The first month is free, so it costs nothing to find out.
